What is HackYour.Tech?
HackYour.Tech is a new Cyber Security focused blog run by two techs currently working for a large consultancy firm. Our daily focus covers a wide range of areas, such as DevSecOps, Penetration Testing, Network Administration and a lot of code.
Why Are We Doing This?
At the heart of our mission, and the reason for creating this blog, is the development of projects tailored to enhance the technical capacities of smaller businesses while also raising awareness about critical security concerns during solution deployment. Through our experience, we’ve encountered numerous businesses (big and small) that unwittingly assume risks or blindly inherit security practices from vendors solely due to brand recognition.
During our day jobs, we work through tasks ranging across huge corporate networks. With this in mind, we want to reduce scope and focus on building smaller work/corporate environments, primarily around Windows AD/Azure. Our goal is to provide readers with a hands-on experience, guiding them through the process of building, hacking, and fortifying these environments. Starting with ‘Out of the Box’ solutions, we’ll delve deep into configuration intricacies, challenging assumptions made by administrators, and shedding light on potential weaknesses to address during setup and deployment. Our environments will mirror those relevant to small businesses, to inform future solutions and foster healthier network practices. While these projects will be conducted offline in private labs, we’ll transparently share configurations and settings to facilitate learning and collaboration.
As passionate advocates and users of Unifi technology, one of our projects will revolve around the hardware, deployment, and utilization of both existing and upcoming features. We’ll embark on configuring, deploying, and stress-testing security measures, offering insights and guidance based on our extensive experience for those eager to traverse a similar path. Our commitment extends to staying abreast of newly released features while also exploring the plethora of functionalities within the Unifi OS and configuration portals. Through our endeavours, we aim to promote sound security practices alongside enhancing the overall user experience. We also want to help readers understand when a Unifi stack could be used, and when it might not be the best choice in comparison to other available solutions.
We are equally invested in monitoring the global security landscape, particularly in understanding the threats lurking on the internet. To this end, we are actively deploying and constructing our own honeypots to collect data from potential attackers. This data will then be leveraged to create informative data visualization dashboards, providing valuable insights for others to learn from and bolster their defences.
Site Layout and Content
Over time this site will likely change to support the content we are uploading. This may include the theme and layout and the structure of the data presented. We aim to have two primary areas. The blog feed will feature one-off posts about random topics and work we complete/research that does not fit into the scope of an overall project. This leads to our second area; projects. Projects will be collections of posts that all follow a similar topic and will be housed together under one roof.
We plan to post, at minimum, one project post a month as well as one-off blog posts whenever something comes up.
Thanks for reading and we hope you’ll follow us through these projects and learn with us.
